Mark Gregory Cruce  Mark Gregory Cruce was born on October 19, 1957, in San Francisco, California and passed from this earthly life and entered Heaven on Tuesday, August 17 at UAB Palliative care in Birmingham. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Cathy Carr Cruce and their son Jason Cruce. His sister-in-law Joyce Carr Quinn (Chris) and his mother-in-law Bonnie Carr. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Gene and Hazel Cruce, his brother Kevin Cruce, his niece LaWanna Chastain and his father-in-law Reverand Jim Carr.
Mark was a 1976 Minor High School graduate and attended UAB Birmingham. He was retired from Jefferson County and worked at the Five-Mile Water Treatment plant.
He loved nature and taking hikes. He loved animal and had many pets over the years from his childhood to adult and they brought him much happiness. He had a tender heart for children and they loved him. He could meet them on their level, laugh and play alongside them. He loved his nieces and nephews, Andrea Web (Randy), Rylee Webb, Samantha Kelly, Karson Kelly, Masynn Chastain and Josie McCollum.
He loved music and was the church pianist for many years, he sang in a trio and also loved playing the bass guitar. He was a faithful member of his church, CrossWay Church of God in Bessemer. His faith was important to him, and he believed in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and Iin the promise of heaven when this life is over.
We would like to thank all the medical workers who attended Mark’s care. Special thanks to our Graysville paramedics and to Cole and Tripp at UAB hospital and Mallory at UAB St. Vincents for your kindness and care.
His passing will leave a big void, but we take comfort in the assurance that he is pain free, reunited with loved ones and in the presence of the Lord Jesus.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Thursday, August 20, at New Horizon Chapel. Burial will follow in New Horizon Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends one hour prior to service time.
