Marjorie S. Hermes, beloved mother, grandmother, and teacher, passed away on June 6, 2026, in Washington, Utah. A graveside memorial service will be held on July 18, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Decatur City Cemetery.
Known to all who loved her as Margie, she had a gift for making every person she encountered feel seen, cherished, and beautiful. That gift found its fullest expression in her years as a first and second grade teacher at Woodmeade Elementary and Julian Harris Elementary in Decatur, Alabama, where she shaped young lives with warmth, patience, and an unmistakable light that stayed with her students long after they left her classroom.
Margie is survived by her daughter, Laura Hermes (Greg) of St. George, Utah; her sons, Patrick Hermes (Beth) of Phoenix, Arizona, and Peter Hermes (Edie) of Huntsville, Alabama; and six grandchildren, Alexa Benninger, Seth Hermes, Jordan Hermes, Layla Eddy, Amanda Quinn, and Nicholas Quinn.
Her family takes great comfort in the faith Margie carried throughout her life and rejoices in the knowledge that she is now in the presence of the Lord and reunited with those who went before her.
She was a bright light. She will be deeply missed.
