marjorie-smith-1475674707Marjorie Mae Lovely Smith, 84, Marge, as her friends called her, lived in Somerville, Al. She died October 4, 2016 at her residence after a long illness. She was surrounded by many family members and her Hospice nurse and social worker from Hospice Family Care out of Huntsville, Al.
Marge was born November 19, 1931 in Grayling, Michigan to Dennis and Alice Lovely. They moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where she met William J. Smith her future husband. They were 11 years old. They married in 1950 at age 18. They had 6 children. He preceded her in death in 2008.
She worked outside the home for many years until starting an upholstery shop in her home in the early 1970’s. She and “Bill” worked in the shop together until 1992 when they retired and moved to Somerville, Al.
She loved reading, word games, and sewing. She especially loved sewing quilts, every size you could imagine. She donated quilts to nursing homes, hospital nurseries, the police, and gave one to each family member who got married, graduated, new baby, or had any other important celebration in their life.
She also loved television game shows and had the opportunity to be a contestant on the Price is Right game show. She won a chance to get on stage, spin the big wheel and be in the final showcase.
She was active in and loved her church, First Baptist Church of Union Grove. She sang in the choir, helped in VBS and volunteered her time whenever they needed a hand. She loved the Lord’s word and shared it whenever she could by her actions and words.
Marjorie loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren. Dianne and Eugene Richards, Virginia and Warren Manbeck, Rick and Lorrie Smith, William B. Smith, Carol and Dwayne Jones and Sue and Brent Sanders. She has 18 grandchildren; 33 great grandchildren; and 2 great, great grandchildren.
She was deeply loved by her sister Alberta, friends Chet and Dee, George, Jimmy and Kitty, her Sunday School classmates, and many other family members and friends, too numerous to mention. She truly loved the Lord, prayed daily for her friends and family; and waited for the day she would meet her heavenly Father.
Funeral service will be 6:00 p.m. October 7, 2016 at First Baptist Church of Union Grove with Brother: Greg Narrell, officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. prior to the service with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Flowers are always nice but a donation to FBUG mission program or WMS, in her memory would be most appreciated.
