Long-time resident of Madison and Limestone Counties in Alabama, Marita A. Kaufman, 80, died June 23, 2018, at Huntsville Hospital in Huntsville, Alabama.
No service will be held; however, a private family memorial service will be conducted and a celebration of life gathering will be scheduled and communicated to family and friends at a later date.
Marita Kaufman was born on November 2, 1937, in Portales, New Mexico, to Rex Adams and Joyce Ethel Stephenson Adams. She attended the Seventh-Day Adventist Church School in Portales, NM; Keene Adventist School in Keene, Texas; and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from The University of Alabama in Huntsville.
Marita Kaufman enjoyed employment at NASA Marshall Space Flight Center in the Public Affairs Office and utilized her Accounting degree to support aerospace and defense contractors in Huntsville, Alabama. After retirement, Marita Kaufman devoted herself to enriching the lives of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was an amazing, kind, forgiving, and loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Marita Kaufman is survived by daughters, Deborah Gigandet, Sherry Davidson (Steve), Lori Kaufman (Dean Bowden), and Becky Kaufman; grandchildren, Kamilla Nelson (Bill), Cassondra Farley, DeAnna Gigandet, and Phillip Gigandet; step-grandchild, Sarah Thompson; great-grandchildren, Anne Lise Batts, Gabriel Batts, and Lucas Gigandet; and step-great-grandchildren Everett Thompson and Cameron Thompson. Marita Kaufman is also survived by sisters, Mildred Bookout (Norval) of Tularosa, NM and Joy Phillips of Pahrump, NV; brother, David Adams (Pam) of Vancouver, WA; half-sisters, Victoria Wenzel of Yorktown, VA and Valorie Urban of Clovis, NM; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family.
Marita Kaufman was preceded in death by her husband and companion of 52 years, John Wesley Kaufman; mother, Joyce Ethel Stephenson Adams; father, Rex Adams; and brothers, Elmer Adams, Bob Adams, and Jack Adams.
