Funeral Mass for Marilyn Ellerbe Broderick, age 55, of Taft, TN, will be conducted Thursday, June 1, 2017 at 1 P.M. at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church with The Reverend Jason S. Terhune officiating. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service at St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Broderick was a native of Fayetteville, NC and daughter of Marilyn Layton Ellerbe and the late Hossack Franklin Ellerbe. She lived in Spain and studied at the University of Sevilla. She was a member of St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church and of The Order of the Daughters of the King. As a child, she lived in Leon, Spain as an exchange student with the Voces Family. After High School in Fayetteville, NC, she attended St. Mary’s College in Raleigh, NC, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education and a minor in Spanish from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, and her Master’s of Education from Middle Tennessee State University.
Mrs. Broderick was a linguist and a teacher at several schools, including Forrest High School in Chapel Hill, TN, Creek Wood High School in Dickson County, TN, Lincoln County High School in Fayetteville, TN, Sparkman High School in Harvest, AL, Miller Grove High School in Atlanta, GA, and an adjunct professor at Motlow State Community College in Fayetteville, TN.
Survivors include her husband of 28 years, Kevin Thomas Broderick of Taft, TN; daughter Victoria (John, Sr.) Broderick-Hamner of Dallas, TX; sons John Edward Broderick, II of Florence, AL and Niall Alexander Broderick of Taft, TN; sister Francis (Pasquale) Valerio of Orlando, FL; and mother Marilyn Layton Ellerbe of Fayetteville, TN. She was preceded in death by her father Hossack Franklin Ellerbe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Nancy Elizabeth Marlowe Scholarship Endowment at St. Mary’s College at 900 Hillsborough Street, Raleigh, NC 27603.
