Marilyn Cruse Ray – Obituary

Marilyn Cruse Ray, 70, of Huntsville passed away on Tuesday. Marilyn was born and raised in Huntsville and was a 1965 graduate of S.R. Butler High School. She worked for 20 years at the Madison County Courthouse in the Court Administrator’s office and in other court offices.  Marilyn married the love of her life, a young Marine named Julius Elbert Ray, Jr on January 17th, 1966. Julius and Marilyn enjoyed a loving and devoted marriage until his death in 1999.   Marilyn was a sensitive and caring person with a deep love and appreciation for her family. She was a loving caregiver to many in her family later in her life. Marilyn loved to spend time with her granddaughters and attend their recitals and school events. She was also an avid reader and passed along her love of books to her son and her nephew.

 

Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband Julius, her parents Mamie Newby and Henry Brooks Cruse, her younger sister Patricia Cruse Browning and her nephew Steven Ray, all of Huntsville.

 

She is survived by her son, Terry Joe Ray (Katherine); her granddaughters, Adeline, Amelia and Julia Ray of Birmingham; her brother, Barry Scott Cruse; her sister, Judy Cruse Duenas (Jerry); her brother-in-law, Steven Francis Ray (Song); her nephew, Brooks Browning; her nieces, Christy Hamer (Tom), Stephanie and Abigail Ray, all of Huntsville; her niece, Carla Prince of Albertville; and her brother-in-law, Kelly Joe Ray (Beverly) and nephew, Jason Ray of Branchville, Virginia.

 

Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Friday, Dec. 22nd, at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, with a service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Burial will be in Huntsville Memory Gardens.
