Marie Phillips – Obituary

 Marie Vernon PhillipsMiss Marie Phillips, 85, of Corinth, MS passed away on Friday, January 11, 2019 at Mississippi Care Rehab in Corinth. She was born in Corinth, MS on April 27, 1933 to the late Clyde and Vernon Kitchens Phillips of Corinth, MS. She was a member of First Baptist Church-Corinth and was proud to be a member of the Dorcas Sunday School class. She loved participating in the church’s monthly birthday meetings and Primetimers group. She taught English for 40 years and was a part of the original faculty at McNairy Central High. She was affectionately known by her students as “Mama Phillips” during her tenure at the school. Marie became known as “Mama Phillips” in her second year at Selmer High and it stayed with her when she joined the faculty at McNairy Central. She loved when one of her former students would recognize her. Marie also taught at Biggersville High, Alcorn Central High, and Selmer High School. She began her career in education teaching for 16 years for the Alcorn County Welfare Department. Marie was so thoughtful that she wrote a thank you card for a story written about her. She graduated with a Master’s degree from Ole Miss. Those left to honor Marie’s memory includes numerous cousins. “Mama Phillips” will be missed by all that knew her. She will forever be remembered in the hearts of her family and friends. Visitation is scheduled from 1 p.m. till service time at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at First Baptist Church in Corinth. Dennis Smith will officiate the service. Interment will follow in Henry Cemetery. Magnolia Funeral Home is entrusted with the arrangements.
