Graveside service for Marie Letson Speegle, 86, of Decatur was held April 14, 2016 at 3 p.m. at Hartselle City Cemetery with Brother J. Wayne Penn officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation was from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Speegle, who died Monday, April 11, 2016 at Decatur Morgan Parkway Medical Center, was born Sept. 30, 1929, in Lawrence County to Omer Henderson Letson and Mallie Mae Norwood Letson. She was a member of Central Park Baptist Church, but for many years prior to moving to Decatur, she was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Marie loved and enjoyed her family, especially her grandson and great-grandson. She loved flowers and gardening. She had a special friend, her dog, “Angel.”
Survivors include one daughter, Claudette Shelton; one brother, Gwin Letson (Jackie), Athens; one sister, Nadine Letson Reed, Montgomery; one grandson, Shaun David Montgomery (Angie), Moulton; two great-grandchildren, Xander Montgomery and Brock Montgomery; niece, Debbie Hill; nephews, Gary Reed and Greg Letson.
Pallbearers were Shaun Montgomery, Xander Montgomery, Brock Montgomery, William Hannah, John Crowell, Carl Terry, Greg Letson, Dewayne Hill, Waymon Jones and Gary Reed.
