Marguerite S. Wurster – Obituary

Marguerite S. Wurster, 101, left this earth to live with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on January 26, 2018.  She loved the Lord. She was a resident of the Regency Retirement Village since 1999, formerly of St. Petersburg, Florida.  She was born in Ocala, Florida, to the late Judge and Mrs. W. E. Smith.

She held a BA degree from the University of Florida and a Master’s Degree from the University of South Florida.  In 1964, she joined St. Luke’s United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg and was a member for 30 years.  After moving to Huntsville, she joined Willowbrook Baptist Church where she served in the library for five years until she quit driving.

She was employed as a librarian for 27 years for the state of Florida including work at the Engineering and Physics Library at the University of Florida, the State Plant Board, in Gainesville, Florida and the Special Library Association where she served as president of the Florida chapter; and president of the college and special library to library section of the Florida Library Association.  She gained recognition by revising the Insecta Section of the Library of Congress classification system and other published articles in professional journals.  She was a member and former Regent of the Caravel Chapter of the Daughters of American Revolution.

She belonged to the University of Florida Alumni Association, and was a huge Gator Fan, never missing a football game.

Survivors include her daughters, Marilyn B. Holeman of Huntsville and Diana B. Ring of Palm Coast, FL; two stepsons, Ernest Wurster of St. Petersburg, FL and Bert Wurster of Gainesville, FL; three grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Willowbrook Baptist Church with services following with the Rev. Doug Merchant officiating.
