Memorial Services for Mrs. Margie Poe Maddox, age 84 of Chandler Springs, will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 at 3:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland with family and friends officiating. A private burial will take place at a later date.

Mrs. Maddox passed away on Monday, October 11, 2021 at East Alabama Medical Center. Born in Chandler Springs, she lived most of her life in Talladega and Clay County, and was a lifelong resident of Alabama. She worked at Southland as a Line Waitress for over 12 years and was a stay at home mom and homemaker. Mrs. Maddox enjoyed going to Mt. Cheaha, especially in the fall, and was a country girl at heart. She loved her family and friends, and took care of everyone. Mrs. Maddox cared for many family members when they needed it and was always there to help. She was very independent and enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, canning and cooking. Mrs. Maddox loved watching comedies and laughing. She was a loving mother, grandmother and sister that will be missed.

She is survived by her daughter, Sherry Germany of Goodwater, her two sons: John McElwee of Apopka, Fl and James McElwee (Kelly) of DeBury, FL, five grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, her sister, Opal Grizzard (Tony) of Carrollton, GA, many nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Grace Poe, three sisters: Juanita, Carolyn and Melba, two brothers: J.C. and Millard Poe, and the father of her children, John McElwee, Sr.

Visitation will be held on Friday, October 15, 2021 from 2:00 P.M. until service time at 3:00 P.M.

Benefield Funeral Home in Ashland is in charge of the arrangements.
