Dr. Margarita Guzman, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, peacefully passed after a brief illness on February 8th.  She had an extraordinary life – starting medical school in Colombia at age 15, completing her doctoral degrees in Europe with postdoctoral work in psychiatry in Europe. She then trained in chest and thoracic surgery in Chicago, Illinois, USA.  She practiced medicine in Chicago, New York, Georgia, and Mississippi. Although she retired from her practice in 2008, she retained an active medical license until her death.

In her spare time, Dr. Guzman enjoyed spending time with family and friends, traveling around the world – visiting Europe, Asia, South America, and throughout the USA.  She enjoyed the ballet, opera, and orchestras – avidly supporting the Huntsville Symphony Orchestra (HSO) for 15 years.

Dr. Guzman is survived by her three children, two sisters, a grandson, and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests you contribute to the HSO Third Grade Violin Program in memory of her, plant a tree or shrub in her honor, or donate to the charity of your choice in her memory.
