Obituary of George Thurman Massey Jr.George Thurman Massey, Jr., 91, of Marietta passed away on February 7, 2024 at his home. He was a member of the Marietta Community Church, a U.S. Air Force Veteran of 22 years serving in the Korean War and Vietnam War Era, a Mason and a Shriner. George was also a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 22 years and a member of the 1953 Marietta State Championship basketball team. He loved woodworking, basketball, football, gardening, riding on his tractor, making peanut brittle, and spending time with his grandchildren and family.

A celebration of life with full military honors and Masonic rites will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024 McMillan Funeral Home at 2:00 P.M. with Bro. Rod Taylor officiating. Burial will be in the Massey Family Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. until 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at the funeral home.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Sallie Janell “Janie” Sparks Massey; his son, Ronald Massey (Pam); his daughter, Karen Massey; his grandchildren, Heather Hancock (Jackie), Kristi Bearden (BJ), Robert Massey, Nathan Wilburn (Margaret), Alison Wilburn, Daniel Wilburn (Stephanie) and Anthony Sandlin (Celess); 13 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents, George Thurman Massey, Sr. and Martha LaRue Gann Massey ; his brother, Harold Massey and his sisters, Louise Gilley and Ruby Massey.

Pallbearers will be Robert Massey, Nathan Wilburn, Daniel Wilburn, Anthony Sandlin, Ryan Boren and Blake McKinney.
