Margaret Putt Grissom – Obituary

Margaret Putt Grissom, 85, died Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Countrywood Assisted Living in Mantachie. She was born October 29, 1930, to William Robert and Ruby Fay Putt. She was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Saltillo. She worked at American Motors (Chrysler) in Kenosha, WI, for many years. After retiring from Chrysler, Margaret and her husband, Oliver Wendell Grissom, moved back to the Saltillo area where they remained for thirty years. Her favorite past times were gardening and shopping.

Services will be at noon Saturday, December 26, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Mantachie with Bro. Rex Yancey and Bob Fortney officiating. Private burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Margaret is survived by three granddaughters, Lynn and Margo Grissom of Wisconsin, and Dana Oswalt of Alabama; one daughter-in-law, Pat Grissom of Wisconsin; ten great-grandchildren; her niece and caregiver, Leasha Segars Watson; numerous other special nieces, nephews, and cousins; her sisters-in-law, Mildred Tucker, Myra Harper, and Lora McCabe; and a brother-in-law, Gerald Thornton.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Oliver Wendell Grissom; five sons, David Allen Grissom, Donnie Grissom, Pete Grissom, Bruce Wayne Grissom, and Ronnie Grissom; a granddaughter, April Grissom Kreeger; two brothers, Billy Ray Putt and Robert Allen Putt; one sister, Betty Baker Thornton; a daughter-in-law, Mary Grissom; four sisters-in-law, Bennie Spradling, Freda Dickerson, Helen Grissom Gilbert, and Fay Cross; two brothers-in-law, Lawrence and Bruce Grissom; a nephew, Bill Baker Croft; and her parents.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Baker, David Baker, Joel Baker, Chad Nichols, Tyrone Moss, and Terry Watson.

Honorary pallbearers will be her favorite cousins, Jimmy Dale Herring and Robert Herring.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.
