Graveside services for Mrs. Margaret Marie Thornton, age 84 of Goodwater, were held on Saturday, July 11, 2020 at 3:00 P.M. at Rock Springs Baptist Church with Bro. Duncan Campbell officiating.
Mrs. Thornton passed away on Tuesday, July 7, 2020 at Grandview Medical Center. A lifelong resident of Clay County, she worked many years as a cabinet maker at Wellborn Cabinets. Margaret was a Godly woman who loved going to church and would get mad when she wasn’t able to go. She loved her cats, “Find a Word” puzzles and when her family would get together for dinner. She was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Goodwater.
She is survived by her daughter, Patricia Cox (Charles); her son, Johnny Horn, both of Goodwater; her sister, Charlotte Culberson (Thomas) of Hackneyville; five grandchildren: Mickey Cox, Shannon Smith, Brian Newman, Kelly Newman and Chrystal Newman; 11 great-grandchildren: Emily and Miranda Meadows, Liam Smith, Shannon and Kayla Lambert, Justin Bland, Jacob and Shay Claygles, Leighann, Harley and Blake Newman; and a large extended family.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Thornton; her parents, Jody and Mossie Sexton McWhorter; Sara Marie Horn; four brothers: Jimmy, Jake, Kenny and Cisco Horn; and her sister, Judy Horn.
Pallbearers were: Mickey Cox, Neil Smith, Jake Smith, Brian Newman, Jimmy Wayne Horn and Kevin Cox.
