Margaret Macomber – Obituary

Margaret Macomber, 96, died February 22 at her home in Huntsville following a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Macomber was a longtime member of Sherwood Baptist Church in Huntsville. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Frank L. Macomber; a son, Kenneth Wayne Macomber; her parents, Thomas Watson Lane and Hattie Lane; a sister, Catherine Hicks; and a brother, Copelane Lane.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Pruett (John); daughter-in-law Cheryl Mason Macomber; six grandchildren: Cyndi Noor (Mike); Diona Binner (Mark); Ken Macomber (Felicia); Tom Pruett (Sonia); Afton Pruett Travens; and Patrick Pruett (Tracey); and multiple great grandchildren.

Margaret and Frank met in 1940 when she was a graduating high school senior in Columbus, GA and he was a U.S. Army sergeant at Fort Benning. He was career military, serving first in the Army before and during World War II and later in the U.S. Air Force following the war. The Macombers were stationed at several installations in the U.S. and also overseas in Turkey and Okinawa during his time in the service.

Services will be Wednesday, February 27, beginning with visitation from 1:00-2:00 p.m. at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, followed by the funeral. Rev. Don Paris and grandson Tom Pruett will officiate. Burial will be at Huntsville Memory Gardens on Highway 72.
