Margaret “Ferne” Edwards Dennis, 76, passed away June 18, 2017, in Florence, Alabama.
She was the wife of Bobby Ray Dennis, of Lexington, Alabama.
Born in Closplint, Kentucky on Christmas Day, 1940, Ferne was the daughter of Elbert and Daisy Edwards.
Ferne was a member of First Baptist Church, Rogersville, where, she enjoyed filling in as a substitute teacher for her Sunday school class.
Ferne will be remembered for her gentle spirit, warm smile, sense of humor, and for her ability to answer almost any question. She was always admired for her intelligence as well as for her unassuming, selfless character. Ferne loved blue grass music, and she was proud to claim the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwest Virginia as her home.
In addition to her husband, Ferne is survived by her children, Kimberly Dennis Bump (Billy), of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Kathleen Gregg MacCleverty (Gary), of Aliso Viejo, California, Thomas D. Dennis, of Lexington, Alabama, and Suzanne Renee Dennis, of Athens, Alabama.
She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Nathaniel Levi Bump (Becky), Elizabeth “Liza” Hayley Bump, Andrew Michael Lowes, Meghan Elizabeth Lowes, Rachel Renee Dennis, and Ryleigh Marie Dennis, and two great-grandchildren, Lily Grace Andersen and Atticus Jude Bump.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017, at First Baptist Church, Rogersville, at 1 p.m.
A gathering of friends and family will follow with a cake and coffee reception.
