Margaret C. Demere, 85 of Huntsville, died peacefully at Huntsville Hospital.
Born in Baltimore, MD to William and Edith Crawford, Margaret attended High School at Roland Park Country School in Baltimore, MD. She graduated from Goucher College in 1952.
Margaret married The Rev. Charles Demere in Baltimore, MD on September 1, 1953. They raised their family in various cities in which Charles served as an Episcopal priest, including Tifton and Atlanta, GA, and St. Alban’s Parish in Washington, DC. In 1991, the Demeres moved to St. Mary’s City in southern Maryland where Margaret continued as a serious watercolor artist, and was involved in the arts, her local community and with St. Mary’s College programs.
Margaret loved the water, the beach, sailing and spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed tennis, playing bridge and her women’s group in St. Mary’s City. She usually had a ready smile and an open heart. Margaret was pre-deceased by her son, David in 2010 & her husband of 60 years, Charles in 2013.
She is survived by 3 of her children: Bill Demere & his wife Maggie of Blacksburg, VA; Jodie Demere Clements and her husband Dennis of Huntsville, AL; and Paul Demere of Manhattan, KS; 10 grandchildren; Paul, Will, Andrea and Eliza (children of Bill and Maggie); Amy Castor, Jessica Martin and Leah Clements (children of Jodie and Dennis); Lucretia, Seth and Tyler Yentes (children of David & his wife, Chris Yentes); and seven great-grandchildren: Minh, Lan, Ada & Elwyn in Monroe, ME; and Jaxon & Clarissa in Huntsville, AL. and Jake in Seattle, WA.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3 pm Saturday, July 11, 2015, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 12200 Bailey Cove Rd SE Huntsville, AL 35803 (256) 880-0247. There will be a chance to visit at 2 pm & also after the service at the church.
