Margaret  Bridges McElyea, 89, known affectionately as Nanny, passed
away on March 8, 2021 at her home in Athens. She was born to Will and Anna
Bridges of Athens on August 4,1931. After her mother passed,.she was
raised by her Aunt and Uncle, Lonnie and Pauline Hudson, and grandmother
Caddie Hudson of Athens.
She is survived by her son, Roger McElyea (Karen); son-in-law Mike Blakely;
grandchildren Andy Blakely (Dawn), Leigh Carl Corum (Tyler), Jess McElyea
(Rebecca); great-grandchildren Luke Johnson (Holland), Ben Blakely, Cohen
Corum, Caroline Corum; siblings Linda Gordon, Dwight Bridges, Delores
McCoy, and Wilda Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her husband Carl McElyea; daughter Debbie
McElyea Blakely; parents Will Bridges and Anna Bridges; siblings Gaston
Bridges, Aileen McElyea, Frank Bridges, Donald Bridges, James Bridges.
A special thank you to her wonderful caregivers Diane Nichols and Robin
Spires. Also, thank you to her dear friend Pauline Brooks.
Graveside services will be held 3pm at Dement Cemetery, on Wednesday
March 10, 2021 with Odis Duncan and Chris Preston officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike Blakely, Andy Blakely, Jess McElyea, Tyler Corum, Luke Johnson and Ben Blakely. Honorary pallbearers will be
Cohen and Caroline Corum.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Hospice of
Limestone County.
