Margaret Abernathy Smith, 80, of Huntsville, Alabama passed away in the early morning of August 15th, 2026. Born to Herbert and Bera Abernathy of Athens, Alabama, Margaret was preceded in death by one son, Gary Lynn Smith, whom she loved dearly. Also, three brothers, Edwin, Ellis, and Elton Abernathy, and one sister, Betty Eubanks, all of Athens, Alabama.
Margaret is survived by Husband Adolph Harold Smith, son Harold Wayne Smith, both of Huntsville, son Ronnie Smith of Ardmore and loving Daughter Teresa Smith Boyd of Athens, two sisters, Kat Bowers and Patricia Simmons of Athens, as well as one brother, Wesley Abernathy of Athens.
Margaret leaves four grandchildren and seven great grandchildren whom she cherished in life.
Margaret was a lively, loving and active woman who was devoted to her Family and the Lord. She enjoyed visiting Family and friends, Traveling, gardening and loved her crossword puzzles.
Margaret was a manager for the Food World corporation for nearly 30 years. After retiring with that company, she became a receptionist for Dr. Hahn in Huntsville where she spent many more years helping people anyway she could. She will be remembered for her kind heart, sweet demeanor and beauty.
There will be a visitation held for Mrs. Smith at Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home in Ardmore, Alabama, on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, from 1:00 PM until 3:00 PM with a chapel service beginning immediately after visitation at 3:00 PM. Bro. Trenton Barksdale and Bro. Michael McLemore will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Gatlin Cemetery.
Ardmore Chapel Funeral Home is assisting the family with services.
