Mardi Gras And Empty Bowls Luncheon Happening In Athens

ATHENS-Upcoming events you will not want to miss in Athens.  Happening tonight is the annual Mardi Gras Parade “Chariots Of Fire” and in March the Empty Bowl Luncheon.

TONIGHT
Marion and Washington streets in Downtown Athens and High Cotton Arts on Washington Street.
The quirkiest and smallest Mardi Gras Parade in the South.

Athens Arts League’s Mardi Gras Parade with a Purpose. Participants have decorated buggies (known as shopping carts in other parts of the country) for the theme “Chariots of Fire.” They will toss beads and collect canned goods for the LCCI Food Bank. Enjoy Tubano Thunder ( the drumming group from the Boys and Girls Club) in front of the Courthouse at 5, mask making for kids at High Cotton Arts 5-6; —Then the Athens High Jazz Band at 5:30. Line up for the Parade at 6 and parade starts at 6:30. Second line jazz band leads the way ( Elkmont and West Limestone) and Lions Club kiddie train with the buggy floats.

MARCH 3
The annual Empty Bowls Lunch will be March 3 at Revival from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.Empty Bowls - City of Auburn

Cost is $15. There will also be a silent auction.

Proceeds will benefit LCCI and other endeavors for those in need. For a ticket link and more info, go online:

Local restaurants will provide the soups, and local artists are providing a piece of pottery. Each ticket holder will get a piece of the pottery to take home.
