Marcus Douglas Nichols, age 74 of Winchester, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. A native of Franklin County, he was born on October 27, 1945 in Sewanee to the late George Washington and Mary Elizabeth (Brandon) Nichols. Doug served his country in the United States Army. He had been employed by Tennessee Apparel in Tullahoma, Shoney’s Management Team in Tullahoma, and at Calsonic in Shelbyville, from where he retired. Doug enjoyed motorcycles, woodworking, playing cards (especially Rook), and he was an excellent cook. He enjoyed vacationing in Florida, but most of all he treasured the time spent at home with his beloved family. In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his brother, George Carter Nichols; sister-in-law, Barbara McNutt Nichols; and nephews, Mike Nichols, and Brian Nicholas Grant. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Margie Davis Nichols of Winchester; children, Michelle (Brent) Holland of Powder Springs, Georgia, and Amy (Jacky) Matlock of Lynchburg; grandchildren, Katie Holland, Megan Holland, Abigail Holland, and Lacey Matlock; siblings, Nancy (Tom) Alesia of Davenport, Florida, and Kay (Tommy) Grant of Winchester; niece, Kristi Grant Pribble of Nashville; nephew, Dr. Thomas Brandon Grant of Frisco, Texas; and four-legged best friends, Scrappy and Jake. Private Services are planned. The register book will be available under the carport of Moore-Cortner Funeral Home from 3-5:00 pm on Thursday, April 23, 2020.
