ATHENS-Police Chief Floyd Johnson released a statement on a shooting that took place on Sunday, July 3 at the Willow Brook Apartments:

“On July 3, 2016 shortly after midnight the police department received a call of gunshots at Willow Brook Apartments. When officers arrived they made contact with a 15 year old female. She told officer she was sleeping when she heard someone pounding on the front door. She got up and saw her mother’s ex-boyfriend Jarquise Peoples through the peek hole. She didn’t open the door due to prior incidents with her and her mother. Her mother was not at the residence when this incident took place. She told officers he then went around the apartment to the back. She then heard a gunshot from behind the apartments and a window in her mother’s room being broken. By the time officers arrived Peoples had left the complex. Later in the morning it was determined there had been five shots into the bedroom.
Peoples was interviewed by investigators later in the morning. He was arrested and charged with domestic violence 3rd (reckless endangerment), degree and shooting into an occupied building. He was booked at the police department and transferred to the county jail.”
