Funeral services for Mrs. Mamie Ruth Tumlin Tidwell, age 91 of Wadley, will be held Wednesday, August 2, 2023 at 2:00 P.M. at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville with Bro. Richie Farrow officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Olive (South) Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Tidwell passed away on Saturday July 29, 2023 at her residence. She was born in Alpine, and worked at the West Point Pepperell Mills with her sisters during her teenage years. She met and married her husband, Earnest Melvin Tidwell, in 1952 and was a stay at home wife and mother to her three daughters. They lived between Texas, Maryland, and Huntsville while her husband served our country, and eventually retired in Clay County. She worked as a seamstress at Russell Mills for over 30 years until she retired. Mrs. Tidwell enjoyed planting flowers, working in her vegetable garden, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed hummingbirds and frogs, and was committed to her Mt. Olive Baptist Church family and community. Her favorite show was Wheel of Fortune, and always wanted to be traveling and going all the time.
She is survived by two daughters, Angela Gordon of Lineville and Bonita Tidwell of Hope Hull; one son-in-law, Joey Hamlet of Daviston; eight grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild; one sister-in-law, Juanita Tumlin of Bluff Springs; several nieces and nephews; her faithful feline companion, Oscar, and other extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Sidney Warren and Mamie Elizabeth Medley Tumlin; her husband, Earnest Melvin Tidwell; one daughter, Stacy Hamlet; one son-in-law, Eugene Gordon; five sisters and three brothers.
Pallbearers will be Sam Belcher, Earnest Dean, Michael Dean, Ben Wright, Patrick Hamlet, and Wesley Gordon.
The family will receive friends at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 from 5:30P.M until 8:00 P.M.
