Malcolm Lee Cook, February 9. 1940 – March 4, 2018, of Athens, AL, passed into the loving arms of Jesus Christ, with his wife at his side, after a courageous battle.

A proud Virginia Tech Hokie, he was drafted by the Detroit Tigers, but chose to follow a career of metallurgical engineering, specializing in fan blades for jet engines and land turbines. His work on helicopter engines earned commendations during Desert Storm.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Mary Crystal “Chris” Knuth Cook; his daughter, Lory Leigh Cook; daughter Wendy Lee Post (Wayne); grandchildren Eric Lee and Jenna Leigh; aunt Dot Hunter; other family members and many friends.

He is predeceased by his father, Lloyd Lee Cook of Slab Fork, WV: mother Agnes McCallum Hunter Cook of Cowie, Scotland: brother James Fisher Cook; and grandson Andrew Theodore Post.

He will be forever remembered as a loving and caring husband, son, father, grandfather and friend.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Samaritan’s Purse at www.samaritanspurse.org. A private family celebration of life will be officiated by Dr. Alan Weatherly of Asbury United Methodist Church, Madison, AL.
