On Monday, January 2, 2023, Maegan Sime (m. Gillespie) unexpectedly passed away at the age of 35. Maegan had a vibrant personality, and easily made friends wherever she went. Her smile was larger than life and could light up a room within seconds. She had a knack for finding animals that needed help, and would often bring home new pets for her parents. She was an avid singer who auditioned for American Idol twice during her senior year at Virgil I. Grissom High School. Those who heard her sing were rapt by her performances, often sitting on the edge of their seats until the song was over. Maegan was a natural-born leader, taking charge over whatever tasks lay ahead of her. Her personality was often dimmed by her inner demons, but she still managed to bring light to the relationships she had.
Maegan is survived by her parents, James and Barbara Gillespie; son, Christian Sime; and siblings: Bethany Nichols, David Gillespie, and Lauren Gillespie.
The family will receive friends at Berryhill Funeral Home from 12:00 to 12:30 pm on Saturday, January 7, 2023. The memorial service will directly follow the visitation at 12:30 pm.
