Mae Evelyn Sheffield, 89, passed away Friday, May 1, 2015, at her home. She was born March 23, 1926, to Elijah Cornelius and Ida Mae Grant Wilson. She was a member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She enjoyed flowers and her hobbies gardening, quilting, and cooking. Her greatest joy in life came from being around her family.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday, May 4, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home Chapel in Fulton with Bro. Lloyd Minor, Bro. Bill Adams, and Bro. James Wilson officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include three sons, James (Sheila) Sheffield of Springfield, MO, Ricky Sheffield of Auburn, and Phillip (Felicia) Sheffield of Pratts; seven daughters, Hazel (J.D.) Hale, Rebecca (Max) Senter, Jackie (Dave) Fuhr, and Vickie Shelton, all of Fulton; Barbara (Truman) Lindsey of Baldwyn, Faye Franks of Peaceful Valley, and Raye (Jimmy) Sudduth of Pratts; two brothers, J.D. “Jiggs” (Mildred) Wilson and Bro. James (Louise) Wilson, both of Fulton; two sisters, Louise Grimes of Fulton and Phyllis (Wayne) Pitts of Dorsey; a brother-in-law, Sylvan Jones of Fulton; a sister-in-law, Bernice Wilson of Tremont; 24 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Sheffield; an infant son, Basil Jr.; two granddaughters, Misty and Christi Sheffield; her parents; two brothers, Pete and Bill Wilson; two sisters, Josephine Morris and Ruth Jones; 10 half-brothers and half-sisters; and a son-in-law, Jimmy Mike Franks.
Pallbearers will be Matt Beasley, Jordan Lindsey, Will Parker, Doug Sheffield, Jerry Wiggington, Ricky Sheffield, Jr., and Mikael Franks.
Honorary pallbearers will be Shane Senter, Ken Beasley, Don Roberts, and P.J. Sheffield.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, May 3, at the McNeece-Morris Funeral Home in Fulton.
