DECATUR-The Department of Veterans Affairs counseling eligibility requirements have recently been expanded to include more than just Veterans. Active Duty service members and their families are now eligible for counseling services, and the Madison Vet Center is bringing these services to them. The Madison Vet Center will set up a state-of-the-art vehicle called the Mobile Vet Center throughout Alabama in the coming months. The Mobile Vet Center is equipped with confidential counseling space that Active Duty service members, Veterans and their family members can use for readjustment counseling services. It will be set up at the Shoals Area CBOC at 422 DD Cox Blvd, Sheffield, AL 35660 on September 18th from 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Active duty service members must have served in a combat or war zone to be eligible for counseling at the Madison Vet Center. These services include:
- Individual, group, and family readjustment counseling to assist the service member’s post-deployment transition.
- Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) treatment and help with other related problems that may negatively impact family, work, school and other areas of everyday life.
- Military sexual trauma counseling for active duty service members of both genders.
Anyone interested in these services or with questions about these services should visit the Mobile Vet Center or contact the Madison Vet Center at (256) 539-5775.
