MADISON COUNTY-The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating a domestic violence-related death that occurred late Sunday night in the New Market area.
On June 22, 2025, at approximately 9:50 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 call in the 700 block of Davis Road. Upon arrival, deputies located a female victim with critical injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. Emergency medical personnel responded and transported the victim to Huntsville Hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased as a result of her injuries.

The preliminary investigation indicates that the incident stemmed from a domestic altercation between a husband and wife while traveling together in a vehicle. The victim, identified as 31-year-old Maria Silos of Madison County, was initially driving. During the dispute, she pulled over to the shoulder of the road. The altercation escalated outside the vehicle, at which point the offender, identified as Garland Rockwood of Huntsville, allegedly took control of the vehicle and struck the victim.
Garland Lockwood, 45-year-old was arrested and charged with Murder – Domestic Violence. He was transported to the Madison County Jail, where he is currently being held without bond.
The Madison County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of Ms. Silos. This tragic incident is a stark reminder of the devastating impact of domestic violence.
