Madie Ola Smith was summoned to rest on April 25th, 2020, at age of 83. She was born to Leonard Cain and Valeria Garcia Cain on May 9th, 1936 in Guadalupe County Texas. She accepted Christ at an early age and faithfully attended Morning Star Missionary Baptist Church in Humboldt. She was a firm believer in God and a lover of Jesus Christ. She showed her love through her works and faith. She led her own ministry of giving, transporting, visiting, texting and calling all that she could. At Morning Star, she was faithfully: a member of Sunday School class #2, on the Mother’s Board, a Deaconess, on the Pastor’s Aid Committee, a member of the Hospitality Ministry, a member of the Dorcas Circle Mission, a member of the Sisters Ministry and President of the Missionary Society.
Madie loved traveling and visiting family. She loved to sing to her grands “A Bushell and A Peck…”, “Get out of that bed and wash your face and hands…”. It creates a smile on our faces that will remain forever. Madie also loved watching the Memphis Grizzlies play basketball. In her younger years she loved to bowl with her family and friends. She loved to cook and prepare food for those in need and those that just loved her cakes, chicken salad and casseroles. She always blessed people in need. She will forever be “Our Rock” and she will be missed.
Madie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband James R. Smith, her son Robert Young Jr., her granddaughter Adrian Young, and her siblings: Sarah Wells, Eli Cain, and Leonard Cain.
Left to cherish her memories are: her sons Rickey Young of Mobile Alabama, Bennett (Verne) Harris of Oak Harbor Washington, and Richard (Marcee) Smith of Avondale Arizona and her daughters: Anita Young of Seguin Texas, Bonita Thompson of Laredo Texas and Valeria Smith-Wedley of Humboldt Tennessee. Along with the seven children, she had 15 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She also stood in as grandmother at school events for neighboring children. Many friends lovingly adopted her as their mother and grandmother.
