Madelene Mayfield Hicks, 86, of the Tharptown community in Russellville, Alabama, passed away Monday, Feb. 27, 2017, at Helen Keller Hospital. She was born Dec. 28, 1930, in Franklin County, Alabama, to Robert and Cora Lee Mayfield. She was later united in marriage to A. Odis Hicks on April 20, 1946. He preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 2016 after 70 years of matrimony. She was a member of the Church of Christ and was well known for taking care of her family and for baking chocolate pies.
Visitation for Mrs. Hicks will be Thursday, March 2, 2017, from noon until 2 p.m. at Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville, Alabama. Services will follow at 2 p.m. in the chapel of the funeral home with Ed Dill officiating. Burial will be in Tharptown Cemetery, Russellville, Alabama, immediately following the service.
She is survived by her only child, David Hicks; her only grandchild, K. LeeAnn Hicks; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Howard, Edward, Lois, R.C., and Eulice Mayfield; four sisters, Ola Crews Ligon, Ruby Britnell, Pearl Green, and Thelma Smith Harrison.
Pinkard Funeral Home, Russellville, Alabama, will be assisting the family.
