Mac Ray Gillespie, age 80, of Decatur, Alabama, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025. A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 1:00 PM at Caddo Cemetery.
Mac was born on January 7, 1945, in Morgan County, Alabama, to Dyke Hudson Gillespie and Reba Manathy Gillespie. He was lovingly raised by his grandparents, J.R. and Lorena Gillespie.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Norman Gillespie; and his sister, Lucy Gillespie Mason.
He is survived by his sister, Shirley Gillespie Leopard.
Mac was a skilled brick mason by trade and proudly owned his own company. His craftsmanship can be seen throughout the Decatur area, including the new addition to Decatur High School, a testament to his hard work and dedication to his community.
A member of the Church of Christ, Mac was baptized as a young man and held his faith close throughout his life.
He was also a passionate Alabama Crimson Tide fan, so to his friends a big enthusiastic “Roll Tide!”
Pallbearers will be nephew, Johnny Moody, Jonathan Davis Moody, Jason Proctor, and nephew, Courtney Dagenhart.
Honorary Pallbearers will be James Latham and Bill Mason.
Shelton Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
