Mabel Lee Shirley Hornsby, 89 of Arab, passed away Friday March 16, 2018 at Hospice Family Care in Huntsville.
Mrs. Hornsby was born July 22, 1928 in Marshall County to Wheeler Shirley and Bertha Stanley Shirley. She began working for the Blue Bell Plant in Arab as a supervisor and as a book keeper for a cabinet shop. Later she worked for Arab City School System where she enjoyed working in the High School cafeteria; she loved spending time with all the children. She also enjoyed sewing, cooking and gardening.
Mrs. Hornsby was a member of Old Brashiers Chapel United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Rudy L. Hornsby and Linda and Ben Hornsby and Pam; her chosen daughter: Loretta Cleland and Kara; her grandchildren: Meg Elise Hornsby, Leigh-Anna Franks and Jaron; great grandchild: Coen Ridge Franks; her brother and sister-in-law: Roy Shirley and Katherine; her sisters: Lola Hadley and Oma D. Thompson and her loving care giver: Annette Barnard. She was preceded in death by her husband: Waymon Rudolph Hornsby and her parents: Wheeler and Bertha Shirley.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday March 18, 2018 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel with Brothers: Josh Garmany and Jr. Plunkett, officiating. Burial will be in Brashiers Chapel Cemetery with Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel, directing.
Pallbearers will be Jaron Franks, Michael McMunn, David Bagwell, Michael Shirley, Donnie Hadley, Mark Shirley and Jeff Hadley
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. Sunday March 18, 2018 at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice Family Care, Old Brashiers Chapel UMC or the NICU Unit of Huntsville Hospital.
