Mabel passed away Tuesday, January 5, 2016 in Abilene Texas. She was born May 28, 1929 to John M. Tolliver and Sadie Cook Tolliver in Democrat, Kentucky. As a farmer’s daughter, she was no stranger to hard work. She retired from General Motors after working in both Michigan and Alabama. Following retirement she filled her time with gardening, a ceramic group, Bible study, traveling, caring for others and baking for family, friends, and neighbors. Mabel, Mom, Nana, Grandma, Granny was an encourager, nurturer and a lover of people. She didn’t believe in handshakes but in hugs. Her quick wit and sense of humor drew people of all ages to her.

She made Hartselle her home in 1982 and even though she moved to Texas in 2012 her heart remained in Alabama. She loved and missed her neighbors, friends and her faith community at Hartselle Church of Christ.

Survivors include two sons J.D. Williams (Debbie), Johnny Williams (Hazel) and a daughter Robin Stansell (Jerry); four grandchildren James Williams (Tina), Johnny Jr. Williams (Marissa), Clay Stansell (Kristen) and Katie Stansell; seven great grandchildren; stepchildren Edna Carol Weeks (Jerry), and Barbara Hodge, Beverly Franks (Floyd) and Rodney Bowen; three sisters Helen Douglas (Richard), Gay Kolp (the late Cal Kolp), Martha Wininger (John David) and several dearly loved nieces and nephews.

Preceding Mabel in death were her parents, her husbands; Luther Roberts, Andy Bowen and James Williams; one brother Lester Tolliver, one sister Anna Lee Wilde, two stepsons Tommy Ed Roberts and Hewlett Roberts.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Childhaven P.O. Box 2070, Cullman, AL 35056 or Romania Medical Mission, c/o Hartselle Church of Christ, P.O. Box 741, Hartselle, AL 35640
