Lyndel Ellen Lyons – Obituary

Lyndel Ellen Lyons of Decatur passed away peacefully August 23, 2014 after her battle with cancer. Graveside service and burial will be held at Elmwood Cemetery, Birmingham, Alabama at 10:30 am Tuesday, August 26. Reverend Billy Abrams will officiate.

Lyndel was born in Birmingham, Alabama. She earned a Bachelor in Music in Piano from Birmingham Southern college and a Master of Music from University of Louisville. She retired as a music instructor from Jefferson State Community College in Birmingham, Alabama. She also taught at the Conservatory of Music, Birmingham Southern College and was an organist at several Birmingham churches. Lyndel was a member of Pi Beta Phi Fraternity, Decatur Music Club and First Baptist Church of Decatur.

She is survived by daughter Elizabeth Anne Hawkins, granddaughter, Latasha Hawkins and several cousins.

Lyndel is preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ellen Lyons and Kenneth Postell Lyons.
