Lynda Tate Doud, 86, passed away Friday, December 27, 2024. Lynda was born January 16, 1938 to Johnnye “Tibbie” Martin Tate and Roy Tate. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1956 and was a member of Mayfair Church of Christ.
A lifetime resident of Madison, Lynda was the consummate civic volunteer, dedicating her life to community service. She was the recipient of the Virginia Hamill Simms Award for contributions to the arts, the Doris Darling Memorial Award and Volunteer of the Year Award given by the Huntsville Museum of Art, and the Girl Scouts of North Central Alabama Women’s Scroll of Honor. Lynda was an active supporter of the Botanical Gardens, the Historic Huntsville Foundation and was an active member of the Madison County Federation of Women’s Clubs, where she is best remembered for chairing the effort to move and preserve the Steamboat Gothic House.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her sister and brother-in-law, Nancy and Robert (Bob) Thibodeau; aunt, Jessie Martin; uncle, Eugene H. Martin; and her beloved husband, Loxie L. Doud. Survivors include her niece, Libby Marbury and husband Don Stevens of Louisville, KY; cousins, Lisa Smith and husband, “Sparky” and Donald Martin, all of Madison, AL and several other nieces, nephews and cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 31, 2024 at Madison City Cemetery, Mill Road in Madison with Dr. Gary Bradley officiating.
