Mrs. Lura Tyree Serrett, of Arab Alabama, passed away at Barfield Health Care on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at the age of 91. Mrs. Serrett was born on July 22, 1931 to Samuel and Maybell Tyree in Winston County, Alabama. She was the eleventh of twelve children.
She graduated from Meek High School as the valedictorian of the Class of 1949. On March 16, 1950 she married Mr. Herbert C. Serrett and she spent the early years of their marriage as an Air Force wife, largely living abroad. In 1970, she made Arab her home. Mrs. Serrett was a faithful member of Gilliam Springs Baptist Church, where she loved serving as a greeter and in the choir. Mrs. Serrett was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Most importantly, Mrs. Serrett was a follower of Jesus Christ. Her faith in the risen Jesus and her life as a believer were the hallmarks of her life.
Mrs. Serrett is survived by her sons Greg Serrett and his wife Karen, Gary Serrett and his wife Connie, and Jeff Serrett, her daughter-in-law Sheila Serrett, grandchildren Shawn Serrett, Tara Serrett Thomas, and Gloria Serrett Smith, Kevin Serrett, Angela Serrett Maze, Jessica Serrett, Jeffery Serrett, and John Serrett, and a host of great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Serrett was preceded in death by her daughter, Gloria Jean Serrett, her husband, and all of her siblings.
A visitation with the family will be on Monday, November 21, 2022 from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm at Arab Heritage Memorial Chapel. Services will be held at 2:00 pm officiated by Clint Maze. In lieu of flowers, the family asks a donation be made in her honor to Gilliam Springs Baptist Church Mission Fund.
