Lucy Greenemeier passed away on Thursday, January 22, 2026 at the age of 93 in Guntersville, Alabama. She was the beloved mother of 2, grandmother of 6, and great grandmother of 7. Those numbers do not include the others who grew close to her and thought of her as Mom or Grandma as well.
She was born in New York but grew up in a family of 8 children in New Jersey. She married Herbert Greenemeier and they experienced the rewards and challenges of military life together while raising a son and a daughter. They moved frequently establishing happy homes and making friends whereever they went. They lived in New Jersey, California, Mississippi, Germany, and finally in Florida where they retired. Lucy relocated to Alabama after Herb’s death to be near family.
She loved traveling, dancing, going to lunch with friends, and spending time with family. She was proud of her Ukrainian heritage and traveled there to stay with distant relatives and to experience life in rural Ukraine.
She had a full and happy life and will be missed greatly by those many people whose lives she touched.
Lucy will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemetery with her husband.
