Lucky Sandlin, 88, of Killen, AL passed away peacefully in his son’s home on June 17, 2023. He was born July 26, 1934 in Taft, TN. He graduated from Columbia Military Academy in TN. He married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis, and served several years in the Army, including some time in Germany which he and Phyllis enjoyed.

He enjoyed his work as a Management Consultant through the years, photography, being a Boy Scout Master in Huntsville, Louis LeMoore Books, his dogs, jazz, Alabama football, and most of all his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Through the years he was “dad” to many kids who came to know and love him. Lucky could always be found sitting out on the deck having his coffee.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; son, Arthur Sandlin; his parents, Ed and Lucille Sandlin; and his sister, Shirley Sandlin.

Survivors include his son, Edgar “Eddy” C. Sandlin, Jr. (special friend, Cheryl Braddick) of Florence; daughter, Shirley Pyle (Jimmy) of Decatur; grandchildren, Beth Gist (Jordan), Matt Sandlin (Paige), and Wesley Pyle, all of Athens, and Wayne Pyle of OK; great-grandchildren, Ella Reese, Seth, Margaret, and Owen; and niece Janet Moon (Pat).

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, with the service following in the chapel. Burial will be in Maple Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Matt Sandlin, Jordan Gist, Jason King, Mickey Drake, Scott Wright, and Jackie Hendrix. Honorary pallbearers are Seth Gist and Owen Sandlin.
