Lucinda Margrett Thames Downing was born in Dallas, TX on March 9, 1976 and died in Florence, AL on June 13, 2023. She enjoyed growing up in Mobile, AL attending the Julius T. Wright School for Girls, and in Winter Park, FL attending Lake Highland Preparatory and Winter Park High Schools. She was an accomplished competitive diver, leading her Winter Park team to multiple state championships while being named a 4-time All-American. She continued her diving career at the University of Alabama earning her bachelor’s degree in 1998. She was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and made her debut in winter park.
Following graduation, she moved to Florence where she began a successful career in the wholesale food distribution business. Of all that she achieved, Cindy considered her greatest success to be her children Lucy, Sara Knox and Bennett. She loved them more than anything else in the world. She was vivacious and intelligent with a classic sense of style and loving heart. She was admired for her discipline and loyalty, and her friendship was sought for her vibrance and humor. Cindy tenaciously overcame many obstacles in her life; her positive spirit remained strong until the end. Cindy had a life-long relationship with the Lord and we know that she is with him now, fully at peace.
Cindy is survived by her children, Lucy Alexis, Sara Knox and Alan Bennett Downing ; mother, Evelyn White Thames Evins (Walter) 1088 Standard Drive NE, Atlanta, GA 30319; her brother, William Armstrong Thames (Marisa); her aunts, Lucinda White Lewis (Doug) Atlanta, Elizabeth Stewart Huffcut (Col. William, d.) Tallahassee, Carolyn Stewart Martin (Burt) Montgomery, and Susan Thames Leatherbury (Greg) Orange Beach; uncle, Boyd Thames (Kelly) Mobile; nieces and nephews, Payton and Alexander Bohn, Maren, Whitaker and Harrison Thames
Cousins, Stewart and Bryan Thames, Gregory and Clifton Leatherbury, Mason Thames and Catherine McKinney.
Cindy is predeceased by her father, Alan Michael Thames; her brother, Alan Michael Thames, Jr.; grandparents, William White and Lucy White Stewart, Stewart and Ruth Margrett Thames; her uncle, Stewart Thames ( Mary Anne ); and her aunt, Mary Stewart Trogdon (Bob).
Family and close friends will honor her with a service at Greenview Funeral Home in Florence on Monday, June 19, 2023. Interment will be at Spring Hill Cemetery, Mobile, Alabama at a later date.
