Lucille Cross Tidwell, 85, our sweet Lucy, died Thursday, May 21st at ECM Hospital, after a brief illness. Living a very full life, she died a peaceful death surrounded by love. The family will receive friends from 1:00-3:00 Sunday, May 24th at Greenhill Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 3:00, with Miles Stutts officiating. Burial will be at Cox Cemetery.
Lucy was married for 64 years to her loving husband, the late Floyd A. Tidwell. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. Lucy never met a stranger and her laughter was infectious. Any friend of her children quickly became adopted into Lucy’s love. Her plants, flowers, and birds were not just hobbies, but friends. Lucy was also preceded in death by parents Bennie Lee Cross and Ellen Cross Vinson, brother W.J. “Dub” Cross, sisters Reba Russell and Elvie Harris, granddaughter Hope Tidwell and daughter-in-law Regina Allen Tidwell.
Lucy is survived by her sons Donnie Ray Tidwell (Jane), Stanley Earl Tidwell (Deb Green), and daughter Mary Ellen Killen (Robbie), grandchildren Tracey Collingsworth (Craig), Jennifer Watson, Amanda Buchanan (Michael), Charity Rhodes (Robert), Justin Tidwell (Kristin), and grandcat Ike Killen. She leaves behind 13 precious great grandchildren. She is also survived by sister Bennie Ruth “Monk” Flippo, sister-in-law Virgilene Hale, nieces and nephews, and countless friends.
Active pallbearers will be Michael Buchanan, Criag Collinsworth, Lynn Hamner, Zachary Johnson, Robert Rhodes, and Carson Willingham. Honorary pallbearer is coffee buddy Gil Cleveland.
The family wishes to acknowledge the kindness and care given by her special friends Caty Lynne Potts and Taylor Scott, as well as Dr. Webb, Dr. Morris, and the nurses and staff of ECM 6th floor. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Lucy’s name to the charity of your choice.
