Loyd Hightower – Obituary

A celebration of life for Loyd Hightower will be on Wednesday, June 27, 2018, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Athens. The family will receive friends from 9 to 10:45 a.m. prior to the service, burial in Roselawn Cemetery. Spry Funeral Home is assisting the family.

Mr. Hightower died Saturday, June 23, 2018, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born August 5, 1928 in Limestone County to Ewell and Olivia Weatherford Hightower. Mr. Hightower was a member of First Baptist Church where he taught in training union when his children were young, served as an usher until 2007, worked with the men of the church on several construction projects and was presently serving on the Hospitality Committee. He served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1961. He retired from Monsanto Chemical Company in 1993 after 37 years of service.

Mr. Hightower is survived by his wife, Wanda Camp Hightower; two sons, Stephen Lloyd Hightower and wife, Jacquelyn and Anthony Lee Hightower; two granddaughters, Madelyn Joy Hightower and Lauren Olivia Hightower Stinnett and husband, Ben; great- grandchildren, Haysleigh Blaire Stinnett and William Loyd Stinnett, several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends, including a special friend, Beth Evans Elkins of Lafayette, Lousiana. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Howard and Boyd Hightower.

Pallbearers will be nephews, Gordon Belue, Lacy Herrin, Barry Hightower, Kennon Fincher, Mark Hightower, Brian Fincher and Gary Pasquale. The Ray McElhaney Sunday school Class, of which he was a member, will serve as honorary pallbearers. Dr. Joel Carwile and Reverend Joe Teal will officiate at the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Baptist Church or your favorite charity.
