Graveside services with military honors for Mr. Louis William Affeldt, age 80, will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, May 4, 2024 in the Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 11 AM until 1:30 PM in the Shelton-Hunt Funeral Home Chapel.
Mr. Affeldt, an accountant with a degree from Valparaiso University working for International Harvester (Steel Division) and Bayou Steel Corporation, US Army Staff Sargent, member of the American Legion and member of Concordia Lutheran Church, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2024 in the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Mr. Affeldt was raised on a farm in northeast Iowa and relocated to Three-Way, TN from Destrehan, LA because his wife and her family were from this area. In 1992 they had the opportunity to purchase her parents’ home site and several acres with plans to build a log home for retirement. That dream was realized in 2018 and Nancy is in essence part of that by its proximity to Antioch Church Cemetery.
He was very thankful to have an active conservative Lutheran church near his home. Being a member of the Concordia Lutheran Church was a continuation of his LC-MS spiritual life from the very beginning of his physical life. He was blessed to have been raised by faithful Lutheran parents with daily family devotions as well as church worship services and youth activities.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Affeldt; and parents, Harold and Mary Affeldt.
Mr. Affeldt is survived by three daughters, Tina Anderson (Bill) of Park Forest, IL, Cheryl Matre (Bill) of Ocean Grove, NJ and Shelia Butler (Richard) of Ft. Wayne, IN; three sisters, Edith Asfahl, Jane Groth and Margie Hunt; a brother, Philip Affeldt (Jean); seven grandchildren, Megan Anderson, Lindsey Solesi, Billy Matre, Kerianne Matre, Scott Ball, Jennifer Butler and Erin Butler; and four great grandchildren, Seamus Ball, Rowland Ball, Penelope Solesi and Raegan Matre.
The family requests memorials to the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Foundation.
