, age 67, passed away August 6, 2016, in Huntsville, AL. He was born in Macon, GA. to Louis Burghard Rau and Livyan Kathrine Sappington Rau. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Constance Rau.
He is survived by his wife, Laura Rau, two daughters, Catherine Dubov and Rebecca Rau, both of Knoxville, TN, and one grandson, Carter Louis Dubov, his sister, Susan Middlebrooks (Sid) and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. He was very dedicated to his family, his friends, his work, and all the people he worked with over the years.
Lou attended Lanier High School in Macon. He won an Army scholarship to Georgia Tech where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Engineering, a Masters’ Degree in Engineering from UAH, and a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Boston University. He served in the U.S. Army. His career included management positions as a Government contractor supporting the Department of Defense, State of Alabama, and NASA. He retired from SAIC at the end of 2014 and enjoyed taking up a new hobby in photography. He and his wife especially enjoyed Ballroom Dancing, and loved traveling near and far with close friends. He was a member of Latham United Methodist Church where he was a choir member and served on various committees within the church.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, August 9 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Edward Babcock officiating.
