Lou Marguerite Bowden 79, of Huntsville passed away peacefully Saturday, March 20th. Lou was born in the District of Columbia September 2, 1941.
She was a nurse for 30 years at Huntsville Hospital until she retired. She was fortunate to have been able to travel all over the world with friends and her beloved husband of over 40 years “Charlie”. Most of all Lou enjoyed her eight grandchildren. She took them to Africa, London, and Paris igniting their adventurous spirit and the infusing the “travel bug” in all of them that endures to this day.
Raised within a large family in the Washington DC area, Lou was one of 11 siblings whom she loved dearly and visited often. She was blessed by and loved her many nieces and nephews.
Lou was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Bowden, and her brothers, Clyde Tolbert Jr., Sonny Tolbert, and Donnie Tolbert.
Survivors include her three children, David Bowden (Cathy), Steve Bowden (Susan), and Melissa Layne (Steve); eight grandchildren, Meredith Fang (Luke), Anna Bowden, Shelby Bowden (Abby), Sarah Smith (Jeff), Lauren Bowden, Elizabeth Bowden, Emily Sears (Zach), and Melanie Layne; great-grandson, Elijah; and brothers and sisters, Ola Mae Tolbert, Charlene Shegogue, Gail Hudy, Marilyn Smith, Dorian Tolbert, Francis Tolbert, Rodney Tolbert.
Visitation with be from 10 to 10:30 Saturday, March 27th at Laughlin Service Funeral Home with John Tanner officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Hill Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials to Gideon’s International or Alzheimer’s Association would be appreciated.
