Lou Emma Blurton passed away peacefully on March 23, 2024 in Birmingham, Alabama, at the age of 102. Lou was born to Luther and Beulah Johnson on August 20, 1921, in Lake County, Tennessee. She spent her childhood on family farms in West Tennessee and fondly remembered riding horses as a young girl.
After living and working for brief periods in Michigan and California, Lou settled in Humboldt, where she taught children’s Sunday School classes for many years at Emmanuel Baptist Church. She took great pride in gardening flowers, vegetables, and fruits and enjoyed spending time with her family. She spent many of her later years surrounded by friends at Morningside Senior Living in Jackson, and Truewood by Merrill Senior Living in Hoover, Alabama.
Lou was preceded in death by her parents; loving husbands, Edgar Taylor, Roy Hicks, and Durwood “D.C.” Blurton; sister Bula Beck (Marvin); and nephew, Marvin “Andy” Beck.
She is survived by stepson, Danny Blurton (Therese); nephew, Randy Beck; and her three great-nieces and their families.
A graveside service led by Brother Steve Hicks will be held on May 3, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery in Humboldt, Tennessee.
