Mr. Lorenzia D Rogers Dunbar Rogers, mostly known as “Windy” or LD, was born in Paducah, KY on February 17, 1937. He passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 4, 2026, at the age of 89.

LD retired in 2016 from Alexander Ford in Boaz, AL where he worked for 28 years as parts and service manager. He worked for 4 different Ford dealerships over 60 years. He got his start at King Woodall Ford and Allan Rhodes Ford in Paducah, KY. He then worked as parts manager for Woody Anderson Ford in Huntsville, AL. He served in the Kentucky National Guard and the United States Army. LD was privileged to be an honor guard for the funeral of Vice President Alben Barkley in 1956.

LD began playing piano around the age of five and guitar at twelve. He played with multiple bands, military bands, and has entertained at countless parties and weddings. He played keyboard at Trinity Lutheran Church in Scottsboro and at Genesis, a former ministry of First Methodist Church in Guntersville.

In retirement, LD enjoyed playing and singing music with special friends at the Guntersville Senior Center and at Terrace Lake Assisted Living. Sunday mornings became a very special time at Terrace Lake when LD and dear friends, Denny Harp, David Nelson, and Bud Palmer began leading a worship service enjoyed by the residents, family and friends. LD was a member of Asbury Church in Madison and faithfully watched Sunday mobile worship services.

LD loved to write stories about his life and enjoyed sharing them with the Old Huntsville Magazine. He was published twenty-five times over the last several years.

LD loved spending time with family and friends who loved him very much. He is survived by his daughter, Carrie Ann Rogers Gray and husband Tommy of Madison, AL; daughter, Diana Love, Paducah, KY; sister, Angharad “Ann” Futrell, Granite City, IL; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Harriet Taber, Paducah, KY; several nieces and nephews.

LD was preceded in death by his parents Dunbar Hilliard and Rena Mae Covington Rogers; daughter, Lorenda Dee Rogers Chatellier; granddaughters, Brittany and Danielle Chatellier; brother, John Rogers.

A life celebration service will be held Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 10:00am at Carr Funeral Home in Guntersville with visitation following immediately after.

Many thanks to our Terrace Lake Assisted Living staff and family, Fresenius Kidney Care of Arab, Enhabit Hospice in Marshall and Madison Counties, South Hampton Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Owens Cross Roads and special friends and caregivers, Sue and Denny Harp. The love and care provided by all our friends with these organizations was exceptional and will always be remembered.
