Lois Ramona Prater – Obituary

Funeral service for Lois Ramona Prater, age 85, of Decatur, will be Saturday, October 24, 2015, 2:00 p.m. at Shelton Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Roger Jenkins, Rev. Steve Agee, and Rev. Danny Prater officiating. The family will receive friends for two hours prior to service. Interment will be in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Prater, who died Thursday, October 22, 2015, at her residence, was born February 10, 1930, in Limestone County, to Martin Luther Turner and Estelle Smith Turner. She was a 1948 graduate of Austinville High School, and married 67 years to James Daniel “Dan” Prater. Mrs. Prater was an accomplished seamstress and musician, and played the organ for Austinville Methodist Church services, weddings, and funerals for many years. She ran a paper route for the Decatur Daily for 30 years. She was an officer in the Christian Women’s Club, participated in Home Demonstration Club, and was a master gardener. Mrs. Prater sang for many special occasions, and enjoyed oil painting and flower arranging. She was also a member of First Baptist Church of Decatur where she sang in the choir.

She is survived by her husband, Dan Prater of Decatur; two sons, Danny Prater of Columbus, MS, and Tony Prater (Sandra) of Moulton; one daughter, Karon Prater Edney (Douglas) of Decatur; two sisters, Margie Turner Monk (Cecil) of Athens, and Barbara Turner Miller of Arab; six grandchildren and spouses; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Alan Cagle, Wes Prater, Todd Prater, Jeff Price, Brian Wright, Eric Wicker, and Josh Price.
