She was born near Bolivar, the daughter of the late Lee Howard and Jo Willie Wilson Mathis and was a life-long resident of Hardeman County. In 1976, she married Mr. William Faniel Swinford. Mr. Swinford died on February 2, 1986.
A homemaker, Mrs. Swinford enjoyed fishing, arts, crafts, puzzles, riding four wheelers and time spend with family.
She leaves two daughters, Doris Swinford of Whiteville and Mary Swinford of Jackson; five sons, John Swinford of Somerville, Jeff and Roy Swinford, both of Arlington, TN, James Hunter of Medon and William Lee Bynum of Lamar, MS; two sisters, Lois Austin and Dorothy Harrison, both of Bolivar; one brother, Robert Mathis of Henderson; fifteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Vandiver and Carolyn Barnes.
