Linda Ruth Ashe, a beloved member of the community known for her dedication and love for her family, passed away on September 18, 2023, in Corinth, MS. She was born on December 10, 1937, in Hickory Flat, TN. Linda’s passing leaves behind a void that will be deeply felt by her family and friends.
Linda graduated from Adamsville High School and had fond memories of her time there. She was a devoted Cardinal fan until her son Richard enrolled at McNairy Central High School in Selmer, which resulted in a realignment of her loyalties. She worked for many years as a sewing machine operator for Garan Manufacturing in Adamsville and also served as a Teacher’s Aide and cafeteria worker for Selmer Junior High School. Throughout her working life, Linda showcased immense dedication and commitment to her work.
However, it was Linda’s devotion to faith, family, and friends that defined her life. She firmly believed in the importance of cherishing these relationships above all else. Her loving and caring nature touched the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know her. Linda found immense joy in spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were truly the pride and joy of her life. Her selfless love and unwavering support created a strong bond within the family that will forever be cherished. Linda was a faithful member of the Fourth Street church of Christ in Selmer, where she taught Bible classes and oversaw the Cradle Roll program for many years. She loved the Lord and her church family with all her heart.
Linda is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Wilburn Gene Ashe of Selmer, TN; daughter Cynthia Droke and husband Jeff of Bethel Springs, TN; three grandchildren: Kara Sloan and husband Curtiss of Crump, TN, John Droke of Bethel Springs, TN, and Dr. Stephen Aaron Ashe of Memphis, TN; two great-granddaughters, Nora Jean Sloan and Layton Ruth Sloan; daughter-in-law Penny Ashe of Selmer, TN; family friend and caregiver Nancy Stackens Ross of Selmer, TN; niece Debbie Medford of Manchester, TN; and nephew Ronnie Ashe of Savannah, TN.
She is preceded in death by her parents, O. T. and Arzie Layton Blakney, son Richard Gene Ashe, and sister Jean Eley. Linda’s memory will forever live on in the hearts of her family and friends, who will cherish the moments they shared with her.
Linda Ruth Ashe’s life was filled with love, compassion, and devotion. She made a lasting impact on everyone she met and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
