Limestone County Narcotics Unit Executes Search Warrant in Athens; Three Arrested on Drug and Weapons Charges

ATHENS-On February 19, 2026, the Limestone County Narcotics Unit executed a narcotics-related search warrant at a residence in Athens, Alabama.
During the execution of the search warrant, investigators located marijuana, multiple firearms, and a Glock conversion device commonly referred to as a “switch,” which is designed to convert a semi-automatic pistol into a fully automatic weapon.
As a result of the investigation, the following individuals were arrested:
* Vic Deomone Houston, 66, of Athens — charged with Illegal Possession of Marijuana, 2nd Degree. Houston is currently on parole for a previous attempted murder conviction.
* Rhonda Kay Smith, 48, of Athens — charged with Illegal Possession of Marijuana, 2nd Degree, and Possession of a Pistol by an Addict.
* Tevarus Dwight Smith, 18, of Athens — charged with Illegal Possession of Marijuana, 1st Degree, and Possession, Sale, or Use of Parts Designed or Intended to Convert a Pistol into a Machine Gun.
All subjects were transported to the Limestone County Detention Faciliy. Each individual has since made bond and been released pending court proceedings.
Sheriff Joshua McLaughlin stated, “Illegal narcotics activity and the presence of dangerous weapons in our community will not be tolerated. The recovery of a conversion device capable of turning a handgun into a fully automatic weapon represents a significant public safety concern. I am proud of the work of our Narcotics Unit and their continued commitment to keeping Limestone County safe.”
